About the company

An earthworks and concreting company on Melbourne's basalt plains

Brothers Excavation and Concreting Pty Ltd is an Australian registered company operating out of the Plumpton and Rockbank area in Victoria.

What we are

Two trades kept under one roof

Most residential sites need an excavator and a concreter, and most delays happen in the gap between them.

We run both. The same company that strips the topsoil, cuts the lot to its design level and digs the footings is the company that lays the rock, fixes the steel and pours the slab. That removes the handover — no waiting for a second contractor to become available, no disputes about whose levels were out, and one point of contact when the engineer or the building surveyor wants something changed.

It also means the pad is cut for the pour that is actually going on top of it. A pad cut by someone who never has to form or screed it is a pad you pay to fix later.

The ground here

Why the western corridor is not a standard site cut

Melton, Plumpton, Rockbank and the estates around them sit on the Victorian volcanic plain — reactive clay over basalt, with floaters through it.

  • Reactive clay moves. Site classifications in this corridor are commonly at the more reactive end, which drives deeper footings, stiffer slab designs and drainage that has to actually work. We price the footing depths the engineer specified, not a nominal figure.
  • Rock is a cost, not a surprise. Basalt floaters and shelves turn up mid-cut. We tell you before we start how rock is handled and charged, so a rock hammer day does not arrive as an unexplained variation.
  • Wet clay stops work. Clay that has taken rain cannot be compacted or trafficked. We would rather move the pour date than place a slab on a subgrade that will not hold.
  • Spoil has to go somewhere. On tight new-estate lots there is nowhere to stockpile a full cut. Cartage and disposal are quoted as part of the job rather than added afterwards.
How we work

Scope in writing, before the machine arrives

Earthworks disputes almost always trace back to something that was assumed rather than agreed. We would rather spend the time up front.

  • Read the drawings first. Engineering plans, siting plan, soil report and any council crossover requirements — all checked before we price, so the quote matches the approval.
  • Written scope and exclusions. You get what is included, what is excluded and how rock, spoil and wet weather are treated. In plain wording, not a one-line total.
  • Levels checked as we go. Pad, footing and slab levels checked against the plan at each stage rather than at the end, when fixing them is expensive.
  • Site left workable. Trenches backfilled or made safe, spoil removed, and the pad clean for the next trade to start on.
  • One person to call. Questions about the dig and questions about the pour go to the same place.
Who we work for

Builders, developers and owner-builders

Residential builders

Lots ready on the date

Volume and custom builders working new-estate lots, where the cut, the footings and the slab all have to land inside a fixed construction programme.

Developers

Multi-unit and light commercial

Bulk earthworks, hardstand and slabs for townhouse sites, sheds and small commercial buildings across the western suburbs.

Owner-builders

Explained, then done

If it is your first slab, we will walk through what the engineer's drawings require on the ground and what each stage of the quote actually covers.
